SUMMARY:Free Summer UCF Program--Teens Girls 13-17
DESCRIPTION:We are excited to announce the region’s first HERricane Watch (Women Advancing Technology for Coastal Hazards) event\, taking place from July 21 to 25 on UCF’s main campus. \nThis week-long\, action-packed program is designed for young women ages 13-17 who are ready to explore careers in emergency preparedness. Through dynamic field experiences\, mentorship from top professionals\, and comprehensive leadership training\, we are building career pathways for a powerful new generation of leaders. A virtual week will follow to help participants connect with their peers and network with national leaders. \nThe stark underrepresentation of women in emergency management leadership isn’t just a gender gap – it’s a missed opportunity to strengthen how we protect our communities. HERricane WATCH programs ignite young women’s passion for emergency management\, environmental justice\, and climate resilience through immersive\, hands-on experiences. \nParticipants will benefit from a comprehensive curriculum that includes: \n\nHands-on activities and immersive experiences.\nFacility tours of the UCF Emergency Operations Center and the National Weather Service offices.\nMentorship opportunities with industry leaders.\nLeadership and professional development training.\nA follow-up virtual week for peer-to-peer and national leader networking.\n\nGuest speakers will include local on-air meteorologists\, Public Information Officers\, and personnel from the safety sector. \nSpace is limited\, and selection is based on the applications received. Lunch and refreshments will be provided daily throughout the program. We are thrilled to offer this opportunity to our local community at no cost. Applications for this program are now open. https://herricanewatchecf.eventbrite.com/
