SUMMARY:Memorial Wall Ceremony: Ocoee Remembers
DESCRIPTION: The City of Ocoee will host an Ocoee Remembers Memorial Wall Ceremony on Saturday\, November 1\, 2025\, from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at Unity Park\, 130 North Cumberland Avenue. The public is invited to attend. \nThe ceremony is a time for reflection and remembrance of the tragic events that took place more than 100 years ago during the Ocoee Election Day Massacre of November 1\, 1920. Descendants of the African Americans who lived in Ocoee during that period will be honored special guests. During the program\, families will place single white roses at the city’s Memorial Wall\, which is inscribed with the names of the 263 Black residents who once called Ocoee home. Mayor Rusty Johnson and City Commissioners will be in attendance. \nThe city first unveiled the Memorial Wall on November 2\, 2024\, as part of its ongoing reconciliation efforts. These efforts formally began in 2018 when the city issued an Ocoee Massacre Proclamation\, followed by the presentation of an official Apology Letter in 2020 during the centennial commemoration of the 1920 Election Day events. \nAttendees are encouraged to pause\, remember and reflect on the lives lost and the families displaced\, and to join in the city’s continued commitment to healing and unity in our community. \nFor more information\, please visit https://www.ocoee.org/OcoeeRemembers or call 407-905-3100.
