Oh Happy Day!

“Don’t worry, be happy!” Sounds simple enough… right? Unfortunately, sometimes it’s not that easy to find happiness in your everyday routine. Life with hectic work and school schedules can be overwhelming. There is no magic pill, no single answer, nothing you can buy that will bring you true happiness and wellbeing. So, what’s the solution? There are small actions you can take to shift your way of thinking to the more positive side of things. We’ve got some simple tips to help you start boosting your happiness level.

Find Your Happy

Here are some simple tips to find happiness throughout the stressful days:

  • When you wake up and get ready for the day, say a few self-affirmations to start off on a positive note. For example, you can tell yourself:

“I’m going to make this a great day.”

“I am smart.”

“Today I will make healthy choices for my body.”

This will be sure to get you up on the right side of the bed, so to speak!

  • Shift your outlook from negative to positive. Try looking at your daily tasks and responsibilities as opportunities. Instead of saying “I have to go to work” say: “I get to go work, I am so thankful to have a job.”. When going grocery shopping, instead of looking at it as a chore, think about it as a privilege. We are lucky to have access to the thousands of options in the grocery store.
  • Take a break! If you’ve been staring at a computer for hours, get up and take a walk. Breathe in fresh air. Stretch your body. Even a couple minutes away from your work station can refresh your mind and muscles to power through the rest of the day.   • Do you have an “Attitude of Gratitude”? Try creating a gratitude journal! Listing out a few things you are thankful for each day can be a great reminder of the happiness you have in your life.
  • Ask for support and help from others. If you are going through a really tough time, you do not have to face it alone. Reach out to a friend to talk or ask a coworker to help you complete a task. If you think you may need more help to find your happy, please speak with your doctor or another healthcare professional.
  • Step away from social media. Being connected to friends and family online can be a convenient way to stay in touch with each other. However, it’s really easy to get caught up in it. This might lead to “FOMO” which means “fear of missing out”, or being jealous of others on social media. Instead of spending time keeping up with what others are doing, focus on what you like to do and what you are grateful for in your life.
