National Health Center Week is August 7 – 13 this year, and we want to spotlight the many services that Community Health Centers (CHC) provides to the West Orange community. Residents can utilize their affordable medical, dental, pharmacy, behavioral healthcare, and more. CHCs help everyone get access to healthcare by accepting most types of insurance plans including Medicare and Medicaid, and offering financial services like Sliding Discount Program, ACA Assistance, and Family Planning.

We asked John Riordan, Corporate Director of Development & Community Relations at CHC, to tell us more about what Community Health Centers provides in West Orange:

• What health services does CHC offer?

“We offer pediatrics, family medicine, internal medicine, obstetrics, gynecology, optometry, pediatric dental, adult dental, emergency dental, behavioral health, x-ray, low-cost pharmacy, patient education, telemedicine (multiple services) and onsite labs.”

• Is CHC doing anything special for National Health Center Week?

“This year we are celebrating our team members as “You are the Star” and recognizing them for their dedication during the very difficult year. We have lots of fun activities planned for the week tied to their compassionate care they provide for our patients and how that matches our organizations Core Values.”

• What does CHC’s impact look like in the community?

“Community Health Centers has 15 health centers throughout Orange and Lake counties.  In 2020, we provided care to 62,267 patients in Central Florida. Our overall economic impact to the community is estimated to be $111,700,000 with 557 direct jobs and an additional 388 indirect/induced jobs sustained as a result of activity generated by our centers and team members.”

• Are there volunteer opportunities at CHC?

“We do not offer any volunteer positions currently but do work closely with some colleges and universities for internships and job shadowing.”
