Adopting and Fostering a Pet

Categories: Well-being

Caring for a Castaway

If you’re considering fostering or adopting a pet, congratulations! You will make a big impact on a huge problem. Numbers vary, but it’s estimated 6-8 million pets enter shelters every year.

Fostering vs. Adoption

If you’re not sure you want to commit to a forever home, consider fostering. Fostering allows you to temporarily house a stray, while relieving some of the pressure on the shelter. Here’s an excellent resource if you want to know more about fostering.

If you are ready to adopt, here are some places to start:

Polka Dogz Pet Rescue
Winter Garden
P: 352-571-0032

Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando
2727 Conroy Road
Orlando, FL 32839
P: (407) 351 – 7722

Orange County Animal Services
2769 Conroy Road, Orlando, FL 32839
P: (407) 836-3111

Donations are always welcome, but call first to see what’s most needed and what’s not needed.

Volunteering

Sometimes neither adoption nor fostering is an option. Consider volunteering at rescue, instead. Here’s what a typical day is like for a volunteer at Polka Dogz Pet Rescue in Winter Garden.
