Here at Healthy West Orange, September means Healthy Selfie! There are plenty of ways to join the fun:

First up: snap a Healthy Selfie!

That’s right, put your phone in selfie mode and show us how YOU rock your healthy journey. And, bonus points, this selfie could win you a Prize Pack of 100s of dollars of gift cards (for things like theme parks, restaurants, groceries, and more) OR a 1-year Family Membership to the YMCA of Central Florida!

BONUS: to add to the Healthy Selfie celebration, we’re giving away two one-year YMCA Family Memberships for honorable mentions!

Here’s how it works! Submit your healthy selfie between 9/1 and 9/19, then come back and vote for your favorite from 9/20 to 9/23. Then, on Thursday, September 26, we’ll announce our three winners. Got questions? We’ve got answers!

What’s a Healthy Selfie?

So what makes a selfie a healthy selfie? We’re pretty flexible. Cooking with your kids, walking your dog, swimming, hiking, gardening, biking, yoga, sports… Heck, even mowing the yard works! And what about mental wellbeing? Quality time with friends and family, meditation, learning a new skill… those can be used for healthy selfies too.

What’s not a healthy selfie? You could probably figure that out yourself, but a couple of examples are: chowing down on a cheeseburger; binge watching on the couch; just looking at the camera with a cute filter. None of these are healthy selfies.

How do I submit my selfie? 

You can email it to selfie@healthywestorange.org or post it on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram using #healthyselfie and @healthywestorange. If you post it on social media, be sure the post is public and to tag Healthy West Orange so we can see it.

What’s the deadline? 

Your entry must be received before 12:00 pm (noon) on Thursday, September 19.

Is there a limit? 

We encourage you to take as many healthy selfies as you want, but for the contest it’s three selfies per individual. So pick your best!

How will my selfie be used? 

When you submit a selfie, you’re agreeing to let us use it for marketing purposes. For instance, you might see your selfie in the Windermere Observer, West Orange Times, on our social media channels, or the local YMCAs. The winners will be featured on the orangeobserver.com website, Healthy West Orange website, and more places around town.

How are you judging the selfies? 

First, we’re looking for fun, healthy images. Second, we’re looking for creativity. But remember, while we choose the finalists, YOU choose the winners of the Grand Prize Pack! The honorable mention photo will be chosen by our guest judges, our friends at YMCA of Central Florida, and win a one-year Family Membership to the YMCA!

When is the winner announced?

The winners will be announced on Thursday, September 26, 2024.

How do I pick up my prize?  

We’ll notify you through social media or email if you’re the winner. Coordinate with us for pick-up of your prize.

Not sure what Healthy Selfie to take? Here’s an idea! Snap a photo while completing our 5K, your way, all month long! Healthy Selfie 5K Your Way has both a virtual and in-person option.

Virtual 5K Option:

Here’s how a virtual 5K works: register first, then complete 3.1 miles at your own pace, wherever you like, whenever you like from September 1-30. Bike the West Orange Trail, hike at Oakland Nature Preserve, rollerblade around your neighborhood, it all counts. If you want to break it up into smaller segments, go for it!

No need to formally submit your miles – we go by the honor system and are just here to encourage you to get moving. We always love when folks send in their finish line photos when they complete their 5K virtually! In-Person 5K Option:

Want to complete your 3.1 miles in-person with an awesome group? Join us on September 14 at 8:30am at Orlando Health Horizon West Hospital to walk, run, or bike a 5K as a community. All ages, strollers, and even pups are welcome!

Our 5K T-shirt distribution will be first come, first served when registering. When registering, please select your preferred T-shirt size. The size choices on the page when registering are the sizes available that are remaining. Registering earlier means a better chance of getting your preferred size! Once the quantities are out, they are out. Participants who have registered for their T-shirt size we will receive them at Check-In on race day. If you DO NOT want a T-shirt, please select “None” when registering to leave more for those who do want them. Medals are now reserved for in-person 5K participants only. Medals will be distributed to participants at the Finish Line on 5K day!

Virtual 5K T-shirts:

T-shirts for virtual participants will be first come, first served when registering. When registering, please select your preferred T-shirt size. Once the quantities are out, they are out. We are unfortunately unable to provide new medals to virtual participants, however assorted medals from year’s past will be available at pickup.
