Get Moving… Dancing That Is!
Have you had a love-hate relationship with exercise? Mix it up, have some fun and DANCE! It won’t even feel like you’re exercising! We’re challenging everyone to get 30 minutes of dance in their life during National Dance Week (April 19-28) and just in case you need convincing, there are really great reasons why dance should be a part of your everyday life.
People often get stuck in a rut because the gym feels like more work after a long day in the office. No need to punish yourself, the best kind of exercise is the kind you’ll actually do. We make time for the things we enjoy, so turn on your favorite playlist and have some fun!
Why is dancing good for you? That’s a great question! 😊
There are five components of fitness: cardiovascular endurance, flexibility, muscular endurance, body composition, and muscular strength. Rather than isolating those categories, dancing targets all of these AND improves balance, agility, coordination, power, reactivity, and speed. Dancing is a low impact, well rounded activity that anybody can participate in and enjoy!
Dancing improves physical health so what about psychological health? Did you know dancing can increase energy and mood, and decrease stress, anxiety, and depression? Studies show that dancing provides another means of expressing ones emotions, and serves as an outlet that improves negative emotions. While this is true when dancing on your own, dancing with others helps you feel more connected and social, further boosting your mood.
How to Participate:
Enough convincing you of the benefits and the fun, let’s get those creative juices flowing! Here are some ideas to participate in our dance challenge!
